Weddings in 2009 focus on value, personalization

Diamonds_angel_hearts_263075_l Wedding trends in 2009 showcase an overwhelming desire to get more bang for the bride and groom's buck as well as a focus on personalization and DIY projects. From what to wear to wedding entertainment, we weigh in on what's in for 2009.

  1. Classic is back
  • Brides are returning to pearl jewelry in a big way and opting for less diamond jewelry. Pearls are timeless and symbolize innocence and purity. Watch for them in bundles, studs, in the hair and incorporated in decor.

2. Wedding Cupcakes

  •  Cupcakes are kid-friendly and help with your budget if you're trying to keep costs down. With a trend in cupcake specialty stores sweeping the nation, you're certain to find a baker who can design a gorgeous cupcake tower for you.

3. Shorter Guest Lists

  • To keep costs lower, brides and grooms are opting for more intimate affairs with close friends and family. This also translates to fewer bridesmaids and groomsmen.

4. Shorter Hem Length

  • Tea length and shorter hem lines are showing up in bridesmaid gowns and wedding dresses alike. In 209, don't be afraid to show a little leg!

5. Novelty Reception Entertainment

  • Where weddings are concerned, no one does it like a New Yorker. One trend straight from the Big Apple is to have novelty activities such as a photo booth at your reception. Guests can have fun all night posing with each other and leave with memories and souvenirs.

6. Color Wedding Bands

  • A mix of gemstone and diamonds are showing up on wedding bands and engagement rings alike. You can mix the birthstones of you and your husband-to-be for a sentimental touch.
