iPods have made it possible for couples to be their own wedding DJs, but is that a good idea? We'll weigh in on the discussion about iPods vs. Live DJs.
First things first...In the interest of full disclosure, we are an event entertainment company. We value the energy and talent of live performers and DJs. But with that, we recognize that an iPod wedding truly might be what a couple wants to do. Take a look at our pros and cons.
iPod wedding Pros:
- You save money by manning your own music
- Guests can look at your playlist and request songs that are on it
- You control what songs are played
iPod Wedding Drawbacks:
- You don't get the interactivity that a live DJ brings to your reception, especially at larger weddings
- iPods don't make for smooth transitions between songs or different activities during the reception
- Be prepared for some "dead air" time
The bottom line:
- If you really want to have an iPod wedding go for it and have a plan. If your heart is set on having a professional DJ or live band, work with your event planner or entertainment coordinator to find something that fits your budget. Event planners hurt in economic times as well, so they are probably willing to work with you and compromise.
- Having a professional take care of your music can save you stress so you can sit back and enjoy your reception as a couple!
